School Meals

School meals are prepared on the premises by Hertfordshire Catering Ltd to the children in the dining rooms.  Hot and cold meals are served, fresh vegetables, freshly made bread and salads are provided every day, additives are avoided and vegetarian meals are also available. Pupil's select their meals each day for the following day. We do not use GM food.  If your child has specific dietary requirements these need to be notified in advance and agreed before your child is able to have school meals.

Alternatively, children may bring their own packed lunch which is eaten inside. If you opt to send in a packed lunch, please Do not send any nuts in lunch boxes as we have children in the school with severe nut allergies. Many chocolate spreads have nut oil in so we also ask that no chocolate spread is sent into school.

Free School Meals

It is now easier than ever for families to apply for free school meals, especially as applicants do not usually need to provide paper proof of benefit. If you are eligible for free school meals please apply even if your child prefers to bring a packed lunch as some school funding is based on the number of children registered for free school meals.

Parents/Carers should apply for free school meals online at:

Apply for Herts Free School Meals

As soon as your application is submitted, checks will be made using the ECS to see whether you qualify for free school meals and you will be advised of the outcome immediately. The ECS can only be used to check for free school meal eligibility, so parents/carers who are applying for other educational benefits available in Hertfordshire (namely remission of music fees, SaverCard, TrainCard and cycle training fees) will still be required to provide paper proof of benefit (unless they are applying for free school meals at the same time).

The list of qualifying benefits for free school meals is as follows:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Income-related Employment Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit, with a taxable income of no more than £16,190 and not in receipt of Working Tax Credit*
  • Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)*
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999*
  • Working Tax Credit during the four-week period immediately after employment finishes or after you start to work less than 16 hours per week.
